Wed Nov 14, 2007, 9:15 PM
  • Mood: Tired
Just a little reminder, folks!

That comic anthology, Popgun, that I'm going to be a part of? The first volume comes out in 2 weeks!! I might not make my appearance until the 2nd Volume but I definitely recommend you take a look at the first. I've been witness to the amazing work coming out of my fellow creators and I have to say, its bloody fantastic! Don't believe me? Take a little trip for yourself and check it out at any of the following places:

:bulletgreen:Satellite Soda
Where all of us Popgun collaborators... collaborate
:bulletgreen:IGN
Plenty of Popgun info as well as previews
:bulletgreen:Comic Book Resources
A preview of Andrew Smith and Johann Leroux's comic
:bulletgreen:Hidden Robot
For everything Popgun

I'll be putting some previews of my own contribution on my website soon.

Haha You frequent Satellite Soda?
I use to go there, but the less than friendly community scared me away > w< Which is unusual, because I feed off in depth, detailed critique. But the general "you suck." attitude there frightens me XD;

I've been hanging around for a while, and I know what you mean. I was invited into the secret forum they keep for the Popgun projects sake and I find its a little better in there. Places like eatpoo and CloudNine have definitely kept me at bay as well. I go to art college and I can handle critiques fine, and encourage them as well, but I don't like it when people take it in a new and interesting direction of douchebaggery. Instead of helping you out sometimes you just get someone being a jerk. I'm not sure if the Soda is so much like that or not though. I've only really ran into one person that rubs me the wrong way, which is pretty good on a whole forum I'd say!

Perhaps it's better now, but back when I went, there was a notorious groups that had perfected the delicate art of douchebaggery XD
But I do love my crit. Once I gain more confidence in my work and ability, I'll definitely stop lurking over at ConceptArt.org and post my stuff to see what advice I can get from the chums over there. Those are people who know what they are talking about--and know how to say it right : D
Sat.Soda and places with similar communities are just too assertive and destructive for me :0

I don't post my stuff in the regular forums on the Soda for the same reasons as you, just in the little secret forum thingy, and only for the comic. I post on CA too! [link] I like CA because they can give good honest crits and still be nice people, which goes to show that its possible! The Massive Black workshop I attended was pretty sweet too! :)

not meaning to sound ignorant XD but what's Massive Black? :0! If it's a workshop, probably something pretty local I'd imagine?
I've been wanting to get into an artscene in calgary more geared toward the commercial arts/illustration and get more involved with it--start making some contacts etc, but I don't even know the first place to look XD; I always keep an eye out around ACAD and stuff--but all the events that are listed off there are all geared to the finearts it seems :0
If you know or ever hear of anything going on in the area, could I ask you to do me a huge favor and let me know about it too? : D <3

Sure, you bet! One of the things they recommend to us illustrators is to join the GDC. That's the graphic designers guild of Canada or something like that. I'm going to join later this year myself. I also frequent lots of different forums, although like we just talked about I avoid a lot of the crazy douchebag types! Some of our instructors put out some interesting communities themselves, like Teak Sato for example and his website Teakbayjobs where you can find job information. [link]

As for Massive Black, go to the main page for CA at any point in time and you'll see tons of Massive Black stuff. That's because Jason Manley and most of those talented people over at CA run a concept art company called Massive Black which is strongly affiliated with conceptart, if not a part of it itself. Every year they host 2 workshops, usually 1 in the eastern countries and 1 in north America.

ha ha ok I'm doing two courses while most do one, multimedia diploma and sreen certificate 3. For multimedia all of our final assignments are due, which includes website a dvd, oh&s documentation and such things, I'm pretty much done on most, but they all still need a bit of polishing. Screens the annoying one, the teachers seem to have not worked together to pace out our assessments, so we have 2 sound assignments due, our final film due, marketing for the film due and the organisation of marketing for our exhibition due all at the same time. So yeah It's all go go go! My non-working tablet is handy because helps to stop me procrastinating, ha ha! :0
